Cyprus—15 March 2011—Construction has started on the Episkopi desalination plant, designed to provide potable water to the island of Cyprus. Episkopi, with a capacity of 40,000 m3 per day.
Mekorot Development & Enterprise, in a joint venture with Logicom and Demetra (Cyprus), won the Episkopi contract issued by the Cyprus Water Development Department (WDD). Nirosoft, acting as a sub-contractor to Mekorot Development & Enterprise, Logicom and Demetra, is responsible for the manufacture, installation, and commissioning of the main process equipment of the plant.
The treatment process provided by Nirosoft comprises pre-treatment by ultrafiltration membranes and seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) with energy recovery. The Episkopi plant is scheduled for commissioning in January 2012.
