Desalination Contract Signed in Cyprus:

On the 13th of February 2008, Nirosoft Industries (Israel) in a joint-venture together with SubSea Infrastructure (UK) signed a contract with the Water Development Department of Cyprus.

Cypriot Agriculture Minister Photis Photiou and Israel Ambassador Israel Avraham Haddad attended the ceremony in Nicosia.

The contract in question is for a mobile desalination plant treating sea water for drinking purposes with a final capacity of 20,000 m3 per day, thus providing a partial solution to the serious water shortage problems of the city of Limassol and its surrounding areas.

The plant will be located in the Moni area west of Limassol, and will be operated until a permanent plant will be completed in Episkopi Bay.

The plant will be built on a Build-Own-Operate-Removal (BOOR) basis.

Indeed, Nirosoft and Subsea will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the system for the period of 3 years.

After that concession period, the plant will be dismantled and removed from the Moni site.

The system will be based on membrane separation technologies, with Ultra Filtration membranes as pre-treatment and Reverse Osmosis as the desalination stage. Remineralisation of the treated water is to be implemented, by calcite filters.

NIROSOFT is today a major player in the field of water and wastewater treatments, operating worldwide.
